Non Toxic Deodorant

Why We Switched to Thai Crystal Deodorant

After going through a lot of different deodorants we feel we finally found our product. Over the years (since the 90’s with the strongest scents) we’ve had toxic deodorants that caused skin issues in the armpit, not actually solving the body odor and the aluminum levels in deodorant being unhealthy for us we ended up at sticking to our current favorite non toxic deodorant: the Thai Crystal deodorant salt stone.

Our Deodorant Journey

For years, my wife and I used standard antiperspirants and deodorants without thinking twice. Our main criteria were simple:

  • No body odor
  • Minimal sweat feel
  • A pleasant scent

About three years ago, I began scrutinizing labels more closely. Especially with my sensitive skin. My wife had been looking into less toxic deodorant already but it really kicked into high gear when we wanted to get pregnant. Managing your hormone balance is critical and once we went down that rabbit hole it was clear that any product that had Endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDC) in it was a big no! We had to detoxify a lot of products that we use in our daily lives and we quickly discovered that many mainstream deodorants contain potentially harmful ingredients and we needed a non toxic deodorant that didn’t have:

  1. Aluminum compounds (linked to health concerns)
  2. Parabens (preservatives with hormone‑disrupting potential)
  3. Phthalates (plasticizers often used for fragrance)
  4. Sulfates

We started Googling and researching every unfamiliar ingredient (basically anything we didn’t understand) —and the deeper we dug, the more convinced we became that we needed a cleaner solution that worked. In all honesty we had used Native for a while but especially for my husband it started to really irritate his skin. He started scratching his armpit a lot where at some point he just had bits of skin fall off. So we knew we needed to stop immediately. One resource that we found very useful is the EWG website.

Why Thai Crystal Works for Us

After trying a popular natural brand (Native) and experiencing skin irritation—and reading about their recent ingredient shifts (e.g., the Dunkin’ Donuts collab)¹—we preferred looking into “odor neutralizers” rather than traditional deodorants. That’s when we discovered the Thai Crystal salt stick as the most non toxic deodorant, which uses pure mineral salts (potassium alum) to:

  • Kill odor‑causing bacteria, rather than masking odors with fragrance
  • Keep sensitive skin calm, with zero irritation—even for eczema-prone underarms
  • Offer a truly clean formula, containing only one ingredient: mineral salt
  • Provide long‑lasting performance at a budget‑friendly price

Our Experience

To be honest it took a few days to get used to it. The first time using it, it really felt unfamiliar. It left no smell at all and I just felt like I put on a thin layer of salt water. However, I just went about my day as per usual. After a few days I noticed my odor really started to stabilize and I really started liking it. After a month of daily use I noticed 1) no skin dryness or inflammation, zero underarm odor (ofcourse after a workout you’ll always sweat). Honestly, the most valuable part as most of you can relate to, it’s not worrying about whether your underarms smell.

How to Use Thai Crystal Deodorant

  1. Wet the Stone: Briefly run under water.
  2. Apply: Gently glide over clean, damp underarms and rinse the stone briefly.
  3. Dry: Pat skin lightly or air‑dry before dressing.
  4. Reapply as Needed: Typically once in the morning is enough; reapply after heavy sweating.
